5-Minute Film Festival (Call for Submissions)

Every day throughout August - 12:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Location: Online

The Pickering Public Library's annual 5-Minute Film Festival is back to celebrate the finest in short films!  

You're invited to create and submit original films, documentaries, and animations up to 5 minutes in length. We will have a star-studded Grand Screening Gala and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, September 26th where we will screen all of the selected films as well as handing out awards in Best Directing, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, and People’s Choice Best Film.

You can submit your creation from July 8th to August 31st at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Haunted Ghost Drive-Thru Tour (for ages 12 and up)

Thursday, September 3, 10, 17, and 24, 2020 - 7:00 p.m.

Location: 2365 Concession Road 6

Take a driving tour of the historic village at night and hear stories from the past that still haunt us today. Learn about paranormal investigations that have found evidence of spirits and ghosts and hear stories of past. Recommended for ages 12 and up. Pre-registration required click here. Tours start every 5 minutes between 7:00 and 9:35 p.m., 25 minute experience.  Cost:  $20/vehicle.

ART-i-Facts

Monday, September 14, 21, and 28, 2020 - 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Upcoming dates on October 5, 19, and 26, 2020

Location: 3550 Greenwood Road, Pickering

Learn sketching, drawing, and watercolour techniques, based on historic artworks from the past. A different historic piece will be featured each class., and participants will learn a new technique each week. Led by an artist and Museum Interpreter, this program will ignite imaginations, inspire creativity, and build new skills.  Participants must provide their own materials.  Material list will be provided after registration.  Cost:  $80/person.

Early Settler Tours

Tuesdays, September 15, 22, and 29,2020 - 9:00 a.m. to 9:50 a.m.

Location: 3550 Greenwood Road, Pickering

Have the children missed out on field trips the last few months? Looking for something to do outside the house with your family or social bubble? Join us for a 50-minute tour focusing on Early Settlement in Pickering. Featured buildings will include the Log House, Log Barn, and Blacksmith Shop. Although this tour is designed for Grade 3 curricula and includes a toy that school children make and take with them, it is fun for all age groups.  We will follow current COVID-19 guidelines.  Group maximums will be observed, and members of the group must be from the same social bubble.  Cost:  $50 plus HST/booked group. 

Tours are to be booked in advance by calling 905-683-8401.

Don’t let COVID-19 stand in the way of a virtual field trip experience for your students with PMV! Grade 3 and 7/8 teachers may choose from a select offering of themed virtual live programs. We’ve adapted some of our most popular on-site program elements into live conference video presentations. We’ll come to you from our log schoolhouse with the help of modern technology! 

 

Programs will operate via the WebEx platform. 

Programs will be offered on Tuesdays or Wednesdays – just call 905.683.8401 and reserve your preferred time!

 

Program Choices:
